WHAT TO EXPECT
Pre-Booking and New Patient Form: Before the appointment, you may be required to complete a new patient form. This form gathers essential information about your animal's health history, current concerns, and any prior veterinary treatments. It provides the chiropractor with valuable insights to tailor the session to your pet's specific needs.
Obtaining Veterinary Consent (if necessary): In some cases, obtaining consent from your primary veterinarian may be necessary. This ensures that the chiropractic care aligns with your pet's overall healthcare plan and addresses any underlying medical conditions. Collaboration between the chiropractor and the veterinarian is crucial for a holistic approach to your pet's well-being.
Consultation: The appointment typically begins with a consultation where the chiropractor discusses your pet's history, current health status, and any specific concerns you may have. This allows for a comprehensive understanding of your pet's unique needs and helps in formulating an effective treatment plan.
Physical Examination: A thorough physical examination follows the consultation. The chiropractor assesses your pet's posture, gait, and mobility. Specific areas of concern, such as stiffness or discomfort, are carefully evaluated. This hands-on examination aids in identifying any musculoskeletal issues that may benefit from chiropractic adjustments.
Initial Treatment: Based on the consultation and physical examination findings, the chiropractor may proceed with the initial treatment. This involves gentle and precise manual adjustments to address any identified joint restrictions, gentle soft tissue work and rehabilitation advice. The goal is to enhance joint mobility, reduce discomfort, and support overall well-being.
Throughout the entire process, open communication between you, the chiropractor, and your primary veterinarian is encouraged. It ensures a collaborative approach to your pet's care, optimizing the effectiveness of the chiropractic treatments. Additionally, the chiropractor may provide guidance on post-treatment care and recommend follow-up sessions as needed to maintain your pet's optimal musculoskeletal health.
Veterinary Consent
Guidelines from RAMP, RCVS, and DEFRA outline rules for addressing musculoskeletal conditions. While consent is not obligatory for maintenance or performance cases, it is required for remedial cases, specifically those post-operative or related to specific injuries.
Prior to your treatment, you will be provided with a new patient form, including a section for veterinary consent if deemed necessary.
The veterinary referral policy serves to acknowledge the potential benefits of complementary veterinary therapies and establishes a framework for their use under proper veterinary supervision. Adherence to this protocol ensures collaborative decision-making between veterinarians and chiropractors in the best interest of the patient, while also preventing any unauthorized practice of veterinary medicine by chiropractors.
For a comprehensive evaluation of an animal patient, diagnostic information from the treating veterinarian is crucial. This information aids in determining the suitability and potential benefits of chiropractic treatments. Should the veterinarian determine that chiropractic care may not be in the overall best interest of the animal, such decisions are to be respected.
